SECRETS OF PRAYER
Things to remember
True prayer embraces the following steps;
- Relaxation
- Concentration
- Meditation
These steps create the ability for one to enter into the silence. In the “silence” one can then be still and begin to listen within. The above steps are taken to enter the silence where God dwells and where we hear the “still small voice.” The mystics write that prayer is the ability to listen; not beseeching a far away God for material desires. Spiritual prayer is where we contact the “still small voice within us,” with its words of inspiration, love and wisdom. It is where we contact and receive the joyful gifts that spirit has given to mortal man for the ages, gifts that have been received by those generations that have had the ability to become still and listen. The challenge on the material level is we seldom take the time to listen. We don’t take the time to really hear the direction that God has for us, we usually move into doubt, fear, anxiety, over indulgence in something that can harm us – for not heading the small still voice brings us dis-ease.
It has been written that “religious” prayer includes:
- Prayer to a nearsighted God, who is perhaps a little deaf
- Prayer to a God who is stuck on a throne in a heaven dealing out evil as well as good
- Prayer that talks at God
- Prayer that talks about God to God
- Prayer begging God to intercede on your behalf.
The religious prayer never gives God a chance to speak back to the one who is praying. If we could be quiet and listen, we would hear the way. We would be assured of the presence of God. We must be still and know. For many of us, being still is the most difficult. We live in an age where we want immediate results. In a word, we have become technology junkies, click and point and receive. For many, prayer does not work that way.
We must relax before prayer. The term of setting our intention has been clearly used and misused by many – but here the example of setting our intention is clearly used to define the one single purpose for prayer – and that is gratitude.
We must concentrate, not on a material object or a want or desire, for God knows all of those effects. We must concentrate solely on GOD. This seems so simple yet, for many this is a very difficult stance because of the expectations that arise when we say the word “God.” God in religious terms can mean, my get out of jail free card, the entity that will get my rent paid, the entity that will get me a new job, the entity that will bring my lover back, the entity that will smite my enemies, the entity that will revenge me and on and on. That is not the spiritual God that responds to spiritual man.
We must concentrate on who or what that term means for us and meditate on the term until we get the awareness, the feeling, the presence of “God,” which is spirit, which is love that surpasses understanding. Until you can understand the nature of God and remove the religious God from your intellect it has been written that it is doubtful that your prayers will receive a response.
A major challenge in prayer is we “see” GOD in a way he can not exist. We on this human plane in this material dimension have made GOD in some respects what Moses condemned when idols were made. We have put this idea of GOD as some bearded being who comes down or will come down and beat us or do profane language. Our first thought because of the material existence we are in is not to see GOD as a loving energy but as a punishing figure that we can recognize from some bad gangster movie. So to pray aright, we need to UNGOD our thoughts. We need to remove these man made ideas about OUR FATHER and SEE him as LOVE. Not a man. Not as one who punishes but as a loving spirit that clearly loves us, not in a material way but as a co-spirit. For scriptures across the universe says we are made in the image and likeness of the Creator. Then, in prayer we must create an image of Spirit. We need to UNGOD our thoughts to let that small still voice within, speak to and through us as Spirit to understand who GOD as spirit really is.
Remember, God is a spirit. Man is a spiritual being. Spiritual man must connect with its spiritual presence through spiritual means, not materially. We must come to GOD with earnest respect. Not begging and beseeching him as if we are not worthy, but instead we must pray, knowing our Loving Father has already said yes, if we believe. Our Loving Father has already said yes, if we have faith.
Let’s dig a bit deeper.
SECRETS OF PRAYER
True prayer embraces the following steps;
- Relaxation – removing all negative thoughts about yourself and others
- Concentration – relating yourself as one with the one. You are not separate from the Creator. God recognizes you in all ways.
- Meditation – know your oneness in prayer. Know as you speak to GOD – the energy of the Creator is always responding to you in a positive way.
Don’t be afraid of your small still voice. Embrace silence because it will center us in the presence of God if we allow ourselves to listen. Know that God will open doors for you to become a follower of Christ teachings. Just as mystics are studied, you too are mystical. You too have a message from the Creator that must be shared. But you must know also you have had the ability to become still and listen.
It has been written that “religious” prayer includes the following and here’s a metaphysical description why:
- Prayer to a nearsighted God, who is perhaps a little deaf – he is only deaf because you pray with doubt and God can’t hear doubters.
- Prayer to a God who is stuck on a throne in a heaven dealing out evil as well as good – We serve a God of promise, when can’t recognize the good in GOD when we can’t recognize the good in ourselves.
- Prayer that talks at God. When we don’t speak to GOD as if he weren’t within us – he can’t respond to us when we don’t see him as a part of us – but separate.
- Prayer that talks about God to God. When you our prayers is speaking to GOD as if he has multiple parts instead of being the supreme spiritual being, how can we expect any results.
- Prayer begging God to intercede on your behalf. In Genesis we were given dominion by God, so the truth their is nothing to beg GOD for. We already have all we need. We only need to be willing to receive it.
The religious prayer never gives God a chance to speak back to the one who is praying. If we could be quiet and listen, we would hear the way. We would be assured of the presence of God. We must be still and know. For many of us, being still is the most difficult. We live in an age where we want immediate results. Until you can understand the nature of God and remove the religious God from your intellect it has been written that it is doubtful that your prayers will receive a response.
You are capable of having a relationship with GOD like no other human person alive. Believe it. Know it. Trust the within for guidance. Great miracles are here for you. For God has ordained it so.
Remember, God is a spirit. Man is a spiritual being. Spiritual man must connect with its spiritual presence through spiritual means, not material. YOU ARE PURE SPIRIT HAVING A MATERIAL (MAN) EXPERIENCE!
Again, relax – let go of the material thoughts of God, concentrate and know who and what you are praying to and meditate on God before you pray. This will bring you into the Christ consciousness.
