Spreading Peace and Love Ministries

For Rev. Dr. Oscar Grant, ministry has never been simply a profession or a title. It has been a lifelong journey toward understanding the presence of the Divine within us, the sacred connection that binds us to one another, and our responsibility to make that connection visible through love, compassion, service, and peace.

Raised in Chicago and educated in Catholic grade and high schools, Dr. Grant felt the call of Spirit early in life. As a young man, he seriously considered entering the priesthood and attending Villanova University in Philadelphia. His life, however, took an unexpected turn when one of his plays received an option, leading him to New York City and into a successful period of writing, directing, and producing Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theatre.

What appeared to be a departure from ministry ultimately became another part of his spiritual preparation.

While living in New York, Dr. Grant discovered the New Thought movement and attended the services and classes of the renowned spiritual teacher Eric Butterworth. Butterworth’s teachings opened a new doorway in Dr. Grant’s understanding of God, consciousness, spiritual identity, and what Butterworth described as an “insight in truth.”

That awakening began a much deeper metaphysical journey.

After his work eventually brought him to Los Angeles, Dr. Grant met the late mystic, minister, and master teacher Rev. Dr. O. C. Smith in 1987. Their relationship grew into one of mentorship, friendship, and spiritual formation. Dr. Grant continued years of study at the City of Angels Church of Religious Science, deepening his understanding of New Thought, metaphysics, prayer, spiritual consciousness, and the Divine Presence within every person.

In 2003, he formally entered ministerial studies and graduated with honors. His continuing spiritual and academic preparation has included advanced study in Bible interpretation, spiritual counseling, psychology and counseling, divinity, metaphysical ministry, chaplaincy, and pastoral care. His academic preparation includes doctoral-level education in Psychology and Counseling through the University of Sedona and a Doctorate in Divinity from Emerson Theological Institute. His ministerial preparation also includes credentials associated with ordination and chaplain education, Clinical Pastoral Education, and board chaplain certification.

Yet Dr. Grant believes that spiritual education means little unless it ultimately becomes service

People can heal.
People can begin again.

The ministry welcomes people wherever they may be on their spiritual journey. There is no requirement to arrive with a particular history, denomination, level of faith, financial status, or understanding of God. Its invitation is simple:

Come as you are. Your presence is enough.

Through prayer, meditation, spiritual reflection, music, compassionate outreach, and practical acts of service, Dr. Grant seeks to help people rediscover something that life’s struggles can sometimes cause them to forget: there is still light within them.

His teachings invite people to explore the sacred space within, listen to the small still voice of Spirit, live from the power within, heal without surrendering their identity to their wounds, recognize their connection to something greater than themselves, affirm their inherent worth, and understand that spiritual transformation is possible at every stage of life.

About the Ministry

Spreading Peace and Love principles are reflected in the ministry’s expanding meditation work, including Meditations for a Living World — 45 Messages for Healing, Connection, and Renewal. Through short, accessible spiritual messages, Dr. Grant explores themes of identity, family, parenting, relationships, human unity, our relationship with the natural world, sacred everyday living, legacy, healing, renewal, and the deeper connection between the human spirit and the Divine.

His approach to ministry is deliberately grounded in everyday life.

Spirituality, in Dr. Grant’s teaching, is not confined to a sanctuary.

It can be found in a hospital room, a correctional facility, a workplace, a family struggling to stay together, a person grieving a loss, a neighbor helping another neighbor, a stranger showing compassion, a quiet moment beside the water, or the simple decision to extend kindness when anger would have been easier.

He believes that the sacred is often revealed through ordinary people performing extraordinary acts of love.

After decades of spiritual study, counseling, organizational leadership, teaching, chaplaincy, and service, Dr. Grant’s message remains remarkably simple:

There is more within you.

There is more love within you.
There is more strength within you.
There is more wisdom within you.
There is more possibility within you.
And there is a Divine Presence within you that no circumstance can completely extinguish.

Spreading Peace and Love Ministries exists to help people remember that truth—and then carry it into the world.
